Liberty and Legislating Morality

There is a common phrase that “you can’t legislate morality.”  Here I will touch on why this is no longer the case.
In conversation with my wife the other day I defined myself as a libertarian (small ‘l’). The thought then raced through my head that in saying I am a libertarian I in no [...]

Congress Trying to Implement Medical Records Gun Ban

Congress is moving closer to a showdown over the largest expansion of
government in modern U.S. history — a bill which would require
virtually every single American to buy government-approved health
insurance, whether they wanted it or not.  And, in the process, that
bill would feed all of your most confidential medical data into an
enormous database, which could be [...]

Darrell Scott on Columbine, NRA and God

My wife forwarded this email to me today.  It speaks for itself
Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our [...]

Obama’s 1040, now it all makes sense

The White House yesterday released the Federal 1040 form for the President and First lady.  At first glance it becomes quite apparent why the president speaks so much about fairness.
The Obamas had an Adjusted Gross Income of nearly $2.7M and $172k in charitable gifts.  That is a giving rate of 6.4%
Former President George W. Bush’s [...]

Get your maps out, guns banned on more federal land

Due to nonsense legislation like this, I can now carry my firearms anywhere in the state except for schools, Federal buildings and the woods by my house – make sense of that.

Minneapolis Jumps on Domestic Violence Bandwagon

Pretext: I don’t condone domestic violence.  Just as I don’t condone killing people with vehicles whether the driver is intoxicated or not.  I do however see the legislature attacking our rights by overreaching on feel-good legislation without considering individual liberties. Extending laws through widening interpretations is not a replacement for due process.
Last month the U.S. [...]

Letter to Senator John Doll Regarding SF1165 Gun Registration Bill

Senator Doll,
After reading through S.F. 1165 and noticing your name on the bill as a co-author, I am wondering why you would support such legislation.  To me these tactics have been tried in other states with no reduction in crime and only a large increase in costs to law-abiding gun owners.
I call out my specific [...]

Shawn Perich Spreads Lies Through Outdoor News

A recent letter to the editor of Outdoor News from me:

In last weeks edition of Outdoor News, Shawn Perich voiced his misguided opinion on the proposed legislation regarding the casing of long guns (HF0128).  Mr. Perich begins by saying:
"Imagine seeing someone driving a pickup with an uncased military-style rifle in the gun rack. Such [...]

Minnesota League of Women Voters Spewing Garbage

I found this in a recent lwvm newsletter.
HF953:  This legislation would close loopholes in existing firearm background check requirements.  Current background checks before purchase of a firearm are required only on sales conducted by federally-licensed dealers, exempting sales at gun shows, over the internet, and in private transfers.  The bill has [...]

My Letter to Erik Paulsen Concerning H.R.1207

Rep. Paulsen,
Please co-sponsor and/or support H.R.1207, an effort to audit the Federal Reserve.
Recently, it has come to light that there is little to no accountability to the people on the part of the Federal Reserve. While the citizens of this country are required by law to give an accounting of every penny they come in [...]
